The Breakfast Club

So the other day I was watching Pitch Perfect when it was mentioned the movie The Breakfast Club. Since I'm from another countrie, I had no idea what a iconic film this is for americans.

Since I was curious about the movie, I watched it two weeks ago in Netflix and I loved it. The storyline of the princess, the athlete, the brain, the basket case and the criminal, all gathered together in detention on a saturday and the interactions that develope between those characters are the perfect simbolism of how teens are in highschool. I think nearly everyone can identify themselves to one of the characters in highschool.

For example, in highschool I was the brain with great grades, straight A's  and sometimes bullied but not as bad as in american highschools. I never felt the preasure of my parents as Mark, I was just responsable per se.

My favorite character was the basket case, never able to predict what she was going to say or do. And in the end she gets the athlete, what a champ!

NOW I have the main song of the movie in my spotify playlist!! I hear it everytime I can.

Finally, here I leave a video of the movie. and I would like to know which of the character you were in highschool ??

Into the woods

So I never imagined Meryl Streep as a witch in a musical... I must say. Nether Emily Blunt singing and Johnny Depp as a wolf! That is a little bit of what u will see in Into the woods.

This film is an adaptation of the musical Into the Wood, made by Stephen Sondheim, to film. The story is a mash up of Cinderella, Rapunzel, Red Riding Hood and Jack and the Beanstalk. It reminded me to the tv serie Once Upon a Time, which I recommend to watch by the way.

The story is about a couple (Emily Blunt and James Corden) with no children that must find a cow as white as milk, a cape as red as blood, hair as yellow as corn, and a slipper as pure as gold; in orden to break a curse and be able to have a baby. These objects were chosen by the witch (Meryl Streep) and they have limited time to find them, and achieve their goal. In their search for these objects, they cross roads with Cinderella, Jack, Prince Charming, Rapunzel....

Everyone on the film is great. The actors commented that the director looked for actor that could sing, and not singers that could act. The hair and make up design and costumes were very beautiful and helped a lot to give live to these characters. When you watch the film, it's like being transported to a fairy tale land. Rob Marshall, the director, was the ONE who could put all these actors, designers... together.

The movie was nominated for the Golden Globes in the categories of Best Actress (Emily Blunt), Best Supporting Actress (Meryl Streep) and Best Motion Picture Musical or Comedy. And also for the Academy Awards in the categories of  Best Supporting Actress (Streep - now she has 19 nominations for the Oscar with 3 won), Costume and Design, and Production Design.

I leave a video of Into the Wood in the 1988  Tony Awards for you to enjoy!!

Interstellar a extraordinary science fiction film

Hi everybody! This time I am going to talk about the movie Interstellar! I have to say that I never imagined Anne Hathaway, Matthew McConaughey and Jessica Chastain in the same movie together, and furthermore, in a science fiction film!

Interstellar was directed by the great Christopher Nolan, and the screenplay was writter by him and his brother Jonathan Nolan. The story is about a crew of astronauts who travel through a wormhole made by aliens in search of a new home for humanity and on their search of a new planet, they go through a lot of things. The crew was conformed by Cooper (played by McConaughey), Amelia Brand (Hathaway), Romily, Doyle, robot TARS and robot CASE.

For me, this movie has been one of the best science fiction films I have ever seen! The science theories they discuss are super interesting. The visual effects that they used are amazing and they seem like part of reality. When the film finished, I ended up thinking that I would like to see what happens later to ...

The movie has achieved nominations on the Critics Choice Movie Awards, the Golden Globes and other awards.

Here I leave a video of the astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyso talking about the science on the film. Hope you enjoy it!

Still Alice...

Hi everybody! I hope you had a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year with your family and friends!
I am writing again after holidays, and this week is about the movie Still Alice. This film was directed by Richard Glatzer and Wash Westmoreland (both have worked together previously on 04 independent movies), and the movie is based on the bestselling novel of the same name written by Lisa Genova.

The plot of the story is about a linguistic professor Alice, who is diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease, and how she and her family learn to deal with it. The role of Alice is played by Julianne Moore who is awesome on the movie. Before they started shooting, she prepared for four months for the role. She talked with a lot of people that had Alzheimer and all the movements/actions related to the disease that she did on the film, Julianne saw them in them.

The rest of the cast is great! The talented Alec Baldwin plays the husband of Alice; and his role is not the stereotype who quits the relationship. The couple has three kids played by Kristen Stewart, Kate Bosworth and Hunter Parrish. Its's very interesting to see how each kid reacts different to the disease of their mother and the probability that they have it too!

What is also great in the movie is that it shows a lot of NYC customs like the place where Alice used to run, what she used to eat and more. Since Julianne is a new yorker, she had that aspect in common with Alice, and contributed with some customs to make the movie feel more real.

So far, the film has been nominated for best actress in a motion picture in the Hollywood Film Awards, Palm Springs International  Film Festival and Golden Globes, and has won the first three.

Here goes the trailer of the movie.
